Do you want to trust God more? Many Christians are looking to deepen their faith and trust God. Perhaps you want to do this as part of your healing process. The Bible offers us many reassuring verses for when we want to trust God more. These verses can help you get on the right track if you feel doubtful or unsure. Meditate on them to gain confidence and strength.
The Best Bible Verses to Help You Trust God More
Here are some key verses to consider when you want to trust God more:
Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take. – Proverbs 3:5-6
This is one of the most famous Bible passages about trusting God and for good reason. It contains four key parts to trusting God. First, you must trust God will all your heart, surrendering everything to him. Second, depend on God for understanding rather than your own intellect and experiences. Third, seek his will through prayer, in every decision you make. Finally, after you do these things with a whole heart, God will show you how to proceed. This process, repeated each day with intention, will grow your trust in God.
Do not put your trust in idols or make metal images of gods for yourselves. I am the Lord your God. – Leviticus 19:4
In our current culture, we do not worship idols of stone or wood as people did in ancient times. But we still worship things that cannot fulfill our needs the way God can. Ask God if you are putting anything ahead of him, even good things like family, work, and ministry. Whatever you put first is an idol in your life, standing in the way of you trusting God more. A trusted Christian counselor can help you dismantle any idols you may uncover.
Let them no longer fool themselves by trusting in empty riches, for emptiness will be their only reward. – Job 15:31
It’s quite easy to be fooled into thinking that our wealth and possessions give us security. You may be trusting in money, savings, or nice possessions more than you are trusting in God. This is a widespread problem even among Christians. Through counseling, you can learn to prioritize God first, trusting him more than your possessions.
Offer sacrifices in the right spirit and trust the Lord. – Psalm 4:5
When you are learning to trust God more, he may require you to sacrifice something. Only God knows what is standing in the way of you trusting him more. It may take greater faith for you to surrender something or someone to God as a living sacrifice (see Romans 12:1-2), but God will reward you for sacrificing something to him as an act of greater trust.
Those who know your name trust in you, for you, O Lord, do not abandon those who search for you. – Psalm 9:10
You can grow your trust in God by learning his names, thinking about them, and praying them back to him. Search for a list of God’s names online and pick one that resonates most with you. Names like Savior, Redeemer, Healer, Counselor, Physician, or Shepherd may help you, along with many others. Look up verses with those names and meditate on them regularly when you are tempted to doubt. By memorizing his names and praying to God by those names, your trust in him will grow.
But I trust in your unfailing love. I will rejoice because you have rescued me. – Psalm 13:5
Recounting God’s acts of love and faithfulness to you in the past can help you trust God more. Make a list of the times you know God helped you through difficulties. Make another list of the times you know God was showing his love to you. Reflect on these times and thank God for being there for you in the past and trust him to be there for you in the future.
The instructions of the LORD are perfect, reviving the soul. The decrees of the LORD are trustworthy, making wise the simple. – Psalm 19:7
The best way to grow your trust in God is to study His Word every day. When you meditate on his instructions and decrees a little bit each day, you will experience greater peace and guidance in decision-making.
You’ll be encouraged about how loving and patient God has been with others and will be with you as well. Even if you have only five minutes to read God’s Word each day, this practice will help you trust him more than anything else.
The Lord is my strength and shield. I trust him with all my heart. He helps me, and my heart is filled with joy. I burst out in songs of thanksgiving. – Psalm 28:7
Have you ever sung a song of praise to God, just between you and Him? You don’t need to have a great singing voice, and you don’t need to make up new song lyrics. You can use a verse like this one since the Psalms were all originally meant to be sung. You can also sing along with Christian songs and hymns on the radio or a streaming service. Singing songs of praise is a creative and joyful way to increase your trust in God.
But I am trusting you, O Lord, saying, “You are my God!” – Psalm 31:14
Declarations of faith are powerful ways to solidify your trust in God. Speaking out short declarations, such as “You are my God!” can remind you where you are placing your trust. Verbal faith declarations are especially powerful when you are struggling with fear, anxiety, or doubt. Simply say this verse out loud, declaring your trust in God, as many times as necessary to feel more secure.
For the word of the Lord holds true, and we can trust everything he does. – Psalm 33:4
As you read God’s Word, look at Scripture through a lens of trust. Consider the underlying lessons of each story or parable, and ask yourself, “What does this teach me about trusting God?” If you spend a few weeks with this particular focus, your trust in God will experience tremendous growth.
Commit everything you do to the Lord. Trust him, and he will help you. – Psalm 37:5
God doesn’t only want part of our lives. He wants full commitment. The more you surrender to him, the greater your trust can grow. Every morning, you can commit your entire day to God. Ask him to help you trust him throughout the day as you are tempted to worry or stray. Display this verse in highly visible locations to remind you to trust him. Committing everything to him, over and over, will build trust in time.
I praise God for what he has promised. I trust in God, so why should I be afraid? What can mere mortals do to me? – Psalm 56:4
Praising God is a joyful way to trust him more. Focus on God’s positive qualities and praise him for one every day. This act of deliberate gratitude and joy will help you trust him more.
